How and Why the CD was produced:

In April 2004 my daughter, Nicola, found that running a hairdryer or a vacuum cleaner helped 'Calm' her daughter, my granddaughter, down and actually sent her to sleep. Nicola knew that I had been mixing sounds using a computer for the Bentley Players , a village Amateur Dramatic Group and asked if I would produce a CD with the hairdryer and vacuum sounds on it.

This was the 'birth' of the CD called 'Baby Calmer' which was the name of the original CD and website.  Because the CD sounds helped households have 'Calmer Times' I decided to use these words as the name for this website on the 'web host' called 'MrSite'.

Other mums in Haywards Heath thought that the CD would save running appliances and asked for a copy whilst some mums asked if other sounds could be added.

The final CD contains the sounds that were requested, tried, tested, and proved to be successful, which mums were pleased about and send comments via my daughter. Mums comments

It was suggested that I try to market the CD and I wrote to 2 leading baby retails suppliers without success so produced a website called 'Baby Calmer' to try to sell the CDs direct to the customer.

Just before this website was created there was an interesting article in a national newspaper.

 HOW were the sounds produced:

For the technical readers the mixing and sorting out the waveforms was carried out using 'CoolEdit 2000' purchased from a company called Syntrillium.

The software and the company have since been taken over by Adobe who have created an excellent program called Adobe Audition, which unfortunately is rather expensive for home users, so I continue to use 'CoolEdit 2000' at present.

The Heartbeat and Womb Simulation sounds were produced by modifying the waveform obtained by tapping the middle of my desk.
